Kerry Hammon was hired as a City of Idaho Falls Public Information Officer (PIO) in June 2013, covering public and media information for all 11 city departments. In 2017, additional PIOs were hired, and Hammon transferred over to the command staff at Idaho Falls Fire Department while also providing public information for the Public Works Department.
During her career with the City of Idaho Falls, she helped shape the City's media and social media policies, developing guidelines for more than 30 social media sites, and assisted with the City's rebranding, graphic design, website development, and the addition of mass communication tools.
Hammon obtained her FEMA Advanced PIO certificate in 2018 and has obtained several other certifications in Incident Management over her career. She serves as a PIO on southeast Idaho's Type 3 Incident Management Team and served in the capacity during the 2017 Total Solar Eclipse and flooding in Minidoka County in 2017. In 2018, she was deployed to Bay County, Florida for two weeks to work in their emergency operations center following Hurricane Michael, a Category 5 hurricane. Hammon has served as a PIO instructor for the Idaho Office of Emergency Management.
Hammon gained a wide-range of experience while serving as the Programs & Events Coordinator for the Greater Idaho Falls Chamber of Commerce from 2009-2013. She planned and organized several large community events including the Independence Day Parade, Liberty Festival on the Falls, Taste of Idaho, and weekly networking luncheons and ribbon cuttings. She also served as the sales manager for a weekly community newspaper; advertising representative for a local radio station; and as a Certified Medical Assistant for 15 years at Idaho Heart Institute and Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
Hammon has a Bachelors Degree in Business and Information Systems Management from the University of Phoenix and an Associates Degree in Applied Science from College of Eastern Idaho. She is a graduate of Rigby High School.
Kerry is a member of the National Information Officers' Association, member of the State of Idaho's PIER (Public Information Emergency Response) team, and member of the local PIO group. She was recognized as an Eastern Idaho Technical College Distinguished Alumni in 2012 and a Distinguished Under 40 recipient in 2013 from the Greater Idaho Falls Chamber of Commerce.
