With the help of IFPD’s K9 Orkan, police seized 504 grams of marijuana and 1.4 grams of methamphetamine.
On Sunday morning, February 25th, at approximately 1:50 AM, Idaho Falls Police conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Poplar Street and North Water Avenue. Officers noticed the passengers of the vehicle displayed nervous behaviors.
The IFPD’s K9 Orkan, a certified drug detection K9 in the State of Idaho, was brought to the scene. K9 Orkan conducted a free-air sniff around the vehicle and gave a final indication to the presence of narcotic odor on the door of the vehicle.
Upon conducting a search of the vehicle, Idaho Falls Police located a backpack where one of the passengers had been seated. Several containers of marijuana were found in the backpack with a combined weight of 503.6 grams.
Police also located a second bag in the vehicle where another passenger had been seated. The bag contained 1.4 of methamphetamine, approximately 0.8 grams of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
34-year-old Marques Lawrence Fields of Chicago, IL was booked into Bonneville County Jail on the following charges:
- Drug-Trafficking in Marijuana - 37-2732B(a)(1)
- According to the statute, “Any person who knowingly manufactures, delivers, or brings into this state, or who is knowingly in actual or constructive possession of, one (1) pound of marijuana or more… is guilty of a felony…” and the quantity of marijuana seized by Idaho Falls Police in this case carries a “mandatory minimum fixed term of imprisonment of one (1) year and fined not less than five thousand dollars ($5,000).”

29-year-old Latressa Roie Straley of Idaho Falls was booked into Bonneville County Jail on the following charges:
- Felony Possession of a Controlled Substance - 37-2732(c)(1)
- According to the statute, “Any person who violates this subsection and has in his possession a controlled substance classified in schedule I which is a narcotic drug or a controlled substance classified in schedule II, is guilty of a felony and upon conviction may be imprisoned for not more than seven (7) years, or fined not more than fifteen thousand dollars ($15,000), or both.”
