Idaho Falls, ID
– Anthony Raymond Orona, 21, and Joseph Hector Avilez, 18, were arrested Friday by Idaho Falls Police after a short foot pursuit.

At approximately 12:40 AM, Idaho Falls Police responded to a disturbance call on the 1300 block of Suzanne Avenue. Upon their arrival, they encountered two adult men who appeared to be intoxicated.

The men were walking across the grass and one of the men appeared to be grabbing something from the other man. Both men fell on the ground together. Police quickly saw one of the men was in possession of a very long knife in his pocket and yelled verbal commands for him to put the knife on the ground.

Chief of Police Bryce Johnson was working on patrol with officers and responded to the incident. The Chief kicked another knife away from the men just before both men ran away from police in opposite directions. Police apprehended both men.

Police retrieved the long serrated hunting knife, which was approximately 8 to 10 inches long, and the second folding knife with several blades. Police also took into evidence some unidentified prescription medications, which are undergoing testing.

Bonneville County Sheriff’s Deputy Crapo responded quickly assisted IFPD officers with the help of his police K9 and ISP Trooper Godfrey also responded promptly to assist with containing the scene.

Officer Dustin Howell and Sergeant Jessica Marley were two of the officers who chased after the suspects. Howell expressed how impressed he was by the teamwork of the officers, assisting agencies and the Chief. “Many hands make light work,” Howell said. “The perimeter was contained very well and everyone worked together. I was impressed by Chief Johnson jumping right in and working directly with us.”

“They all really did an incredible job,” said Chief Johnson. “Officers used really good judgment, de-escalated the incident very well and the scene was very well contained.”
