Idaho Falls, ID – At approximately 4:45 PM, Idaho Falls public safety dispatch received a call about a disturbance. IFPD officers responded to the call and attempted to stop the woman involved near the intersection of E 21st Street and S Boulevard, who was driving a red Mitsubishi Eclipse. Officers suspected she may have been highly intoxicated. When officers attempted to speak to her, the woman drove away. Police did not initiate a vehicle pursuit, but drove in the general direction the woman fled.
The woman continued driving Southbound on Boulevard into the Stonebrook subdivision. Near the intersection of Stonebrook Lane and Stonebrook Place, the woman hit another vehicle, swerved and collided head-on with a tree. The woman was ejected from her vehicle and sustained serious injuries.
The parties in the other vehicle, a white Dodge Stratus, fled the scene.
Emergency medical services were dispatched to the scene at 5:02 PM and arrived at 5:08 PM. The victim was transported to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center at 5:17 PM. The woman’s current medical condition is unknown.
Idaho State Police is working with the IFPD to investigate the accident.
