[ARCHIVED] Mayor Casper to Give Annual State of the City Address

Idaho Falls_Mayor_Rebecca CasperIdaho Falls, ID – Idaho Falls Mayor Rebecca Casper will give the annual State of the City address on Jan. 11. The address will be given during the City Council meeting at 7:30 p.m. in the City Annex building, 680 Park Avenue. The public and media are invited to attend.

The first meeting of the year following an election is always a very full meeting. In accordance with state statutes, the first order of business is for outgoing council members to conclude any outstanding financial business. Next, newly elected City Council Members, Jim Freeman, Jim Francis and Shelly Smede, will be sworn into office and seated. The council president will be elected. These formal actions will be followed by what has become an Idaho Falls tradition, the State of the City address by the mayor.

“This year’s State of the City address will be similar to previous years in that we will highlight the 2017 accomplishments and share goals for 2018. However, this year I will get a little help from our eleven department directors who will participate in a video report that highlights some of the city’s previous year’s achievements,” explains Idaho Falls Mayor Rebecca Casper.

Following the State of the City address, an awards presentation recognizing city employees who have dedicated 20 to 40 years of service to the City of Idaho Falls will take place.

Casper says, “Each year, we recognize employees who have positively impacted this city through many years of dedicated service. Their years of experience certainly matter. It is right that we honor them for their commitment to making Idaho Falls the kind of city that gets better every year. ”

Online streaming of all City Council meetings are available for those who cannot attend. The link to the live stream is on the homepage of the city’s website. The meetings are also archived for later viewing.
