Several wide-ranging roadway safety and pavement improvements along the 17^th Street corridor in Idaho Falls are under consideration for the summer of 2018. The City of Idaho Falls Engineering Division is seeking comment on the proposed improvements.

Interested parties are encouraged to submit comments on or before October 20, 2017 to allow amply time for consideration prior to finalizing the two federal-aid roadway projects with the State.

17^th Street Mill & Overlay

In prior years, the 17^th Street roadway surface was milled and a new pavement overlay constructed west of Holmes Avenue and east of Woodruff Avenue. In 2018, the section between Holmes Avenue and Woodruff Avenue will be milled and overlaid, along with minor improvements to corner pedestrian ramps and storm drain inlets.

17^th Street Median Curbs

The City of Idaho Falls commissioned a Road Safety Audit of 17^th Street to identify improvements to one of the city’s busiest corridors. The safety audit completed in 2016 recommended road safety improvements to include the installation of median curbs to restrict left turns in and out of driveways that are in close proximity to major intersections on 17^th Street. 

Based on those recommendations, the City is proposing the installation of median curbs at or near the following intersections (click on intersections for images):  

• 17^th Street & S. Boulevard
• 17^th Street & Holmes Avenue
• 17^th Street & June Avenue
• 17^th Street & Jennie Lee Drive
• 17^th Street & St. Clair Road
• 17^th Street & Woodruff Avenue
• 17^th Street & Channing Way
