[ARCHIVED] City of Idaho Falls Honors Veterans at Special Air Show Program

Honoring Those Who Serve_Air ShowThe skies over Idaho Falls will begin to rumble next week as jets and other aircraft arrive for the Extreme Blue Thunder air show on Saturday and Sunday.

To honor those who served, the City of Idaho Falls is proud to announce a special VIP Veteran Air Show program on Friday, July 21. The special event is free for all veterans and one (1) guest (guest must be 18 years or older).

Gates open at 11 a.m., and the program will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the Idaho Falls Regional Airport. The National Guard 116th will provide the Color Guard, Idaho Falls City Councilwoman Michelle Ziel-Dingman will sing the National Anthem, and the Idaho Falls Fire Department Pipes & Drums will entertain guests. Idaho Falls Mayor Rebecca Casper will provide remarks.

The presentation will be followed by a very special dress rehearsal showing of the U.S. Navy Blue Angel’s precision flying team, alongside other world-class aerial performers, from noon to 4:00 p.m. Beverages will be provided by IE Productions. Food will be available for purchase.

Last year, the Department of Defense selected Idaho Falls as a partner city with 7,000 other communities in the United States to help honor the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War.  Idaho Falls will host a series of six events over the next three years. Two commemorative events were held in 2016.  The VIP Air Show Program is the second event scheduled for 2017. The first recognition event was the showing of Bravo! Common Men, Uncommon Valor.

The parking lot for the event is located along the east side of Skyline Drive (purple lot map), just south of the main airport entrance. The lot is a short distance from the air show entrance gate. Restrooms and a large shade tent will be available.  Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, as the show is open seating.
