No one was injured following a house fire last night in Idaho Falls, however several were displaced from their home.

The Idaho Falls Fire Department and Idaho Falls Police Department were dispatched just before 7 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 29 after the Bonneville County Idaho Falls Dispatch Center received a call from one of the occupants stating that the basement was on fire and that two occupants were still inside the home. There were at least ten adults and one juvenile inside the home when the fire started in one of the bedrooms in the basement.

When firefighters arrived on scene they encountered heavy smoke coming from the basement with reports that there was still one adult male inside. Firefighters immediately began searching for occupants while extinguishing the fire. Shortly after entering the home, they received confirmation that all of the occupants were able to evacuate safely.

One individual was evaluated on scene by IFFD EMS personnel for smoke inhalation but was not transported to the hospital.

Approximately fifteen minutes after the 9-1-1 call, the fire was extinguished. While the fire was contained to the back bedroom, there was heavy smoke damage throughout the home and water damage in the basement.

Intermountain Gas and Idaho Falls Power were dispatched to secure utilities, however the furnace was not able to be turned back on. The Chaplains of Idaho responded to assist the occupants with finding a temporary place to stay and other needs.

The estimated amount of damage is unknown at this time. The cause of the fire is under investigation by IFFD’s Fire Prevention and Investigation Division.
