(Idaho Falls, ID) -- The City of Idaho Falls Community Development Services Department is hosting an open house for residents, property owners, and the general public to visit with staff and view the South Downtown Plan.
The open house will take place Wednesday, October 9, 2019 between 7:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. in the Idaho Falls Public Library, Meeting Room 1. An introductory presentation will begin at 7:00 p.m. and staff will be available for questions the remainder of the open house.
The South Downtown Plan is intended to be a proactive planning document which guides development in the area’s future. The open house is intended to present the South Downtown Plan, with information gathered by the South Downtown Steering Committee, residents, property owners, and the public.
“The South Downtown area is an interesting and exciting area,” said Community Development Services Planner Brent McLane, who has been overseeing the South Downtown process. “It provides an important link to the history of Idaho Falls, and the City’s plan for this area will create a framework to not only preserve that history but also encourage and guide careful investment to revitalize the area.”
In 2018, Idaho Smart Growth conducted background research providing information and initial public outreach for the Idaho Falls South Downtown Plan. Building on that framework, the City of Idaho Falls Community Development Services Department formed the South Downtown Steering Committee. The steering committee is comprised of residents, landowners, developers, and interdepartmental city staff with the purpose of generating goals and ideas for a draft version of the South Downtown Plan.
In April, a design charrette was conducted with the steering committee and in June, the Community Development Services Department held an open house to garner feedback from the residents and property owners of this area, as well as from the general public.
Wednesday’s Open House is the third and final public meeting and is scheduled for residents, property owners, and the general public to see the South Downtown Plan.
