[ARCHIVED] City of Idaho Falls to Cut Ribbon on New Community Park Playground

(Idaho Falls, ID) – Mayor Rebecca Casper will be on hand to cut the ribbon on Idaho Falls newest playground at Community Park on Friday, May 24 at noon.

The playground was built in conjunction with the Civitan Club of Idaho Falls as part of their “Partnering for Play” project with the city.  As part of the project, the Idaho Falls Civitan organization donated $25,000, adding to $40,000 from the city to create an ADA compliant playground that includes a large rope climber, brand new swings and a 75 foot zip line.

The playground opening on Friday is the first phase of the project.  The second phase will include slides and other equipment that are designed for younger children.  The playground is part of additional improvement at Community Park, including recently completed trail renovations and improved landscaping.

In addition to the financial contribution, the Civitan Club also donated volunteer hours from their members to help build the playground, along with the Mayor, members of the City Council and other volunteers.

Community Park will be the second playground constructed in partnership between the City of Idaho Falls and the Civitan organization.  The first park was constructed in 2018 at Freeman Park.  That project won the Outstanding Community Service Project Award from the Civitan International organization in 2018.

Also participating in the ribbon cutting will be Idaho Falls Parks and Recreation Assistant Director PJ Holm and Civitan Club of Idaho Falls 2019 President, McKayla Matlack.

“We are really excited for this partnership and are looking forward to cutting the ribbon on this great new addition to our Idaho Falls parks offerings,” said Holm.  “We are happy to have such a great relationship with the Civitans and look forward to seeing many more great projects like this in the future.”
