Yesterday IDA hosted Boeing's test flights of a Boeing KC-46, a military fuel tanker, derivative of the popular Boeing-767 airliner. Boeing was conducting test flights seeking FAA approval of a new landing system.
The Idaho Falls Regional Airport has assisted Boeing over the past few months as they have sought to gain further certification. One of the reasons they chose Idaho Falls is because IDA is unique in that it has the longest grooved runway in the tristate area at 9,002 feet.
The airport supports Boeing as they move forward with this certification and their military contract to provide an updated tanker fleet.
