General Services

The General Services Division is responsible for administration of the following divisions:
  • Building Maintenance
  • Civic Auditorium
  • Equipment Maintenance Facility (EMF)
  • Property Management and Purchasing
General Services oversees various construction projects, negotiates land and property leases; and is responsible for budgeting, purchasing and replacing, all City-owned vehicles and equipment.

Civic Auditorium

The Civic Auditorium is a performing arts venue, located at 501 South Holmes. The auditorium has a seating capacity of 1,892 and is used for a variety of purposes including theater, dance, choir, and concert performances; as well as school events and business meetings. Property Management

Property Management is responsible for acquiring registration and titles for all City equipment, recording all asset information pertaining to equipment, and overseeing the surplus auction, which include used equipment and all other surplus items. Property Management is responsible for inventory control, tracking the costs of construction projects and maintaining all real property files.

Building Maintenance

The Building Maintenance division employs 11 individuals and is responsible for maintaining and improving over 200 City-owned facilities. Building Maintenance provides oversight for the cleaning of City facilities; and is responsible for maintaining plumbing, electrical, heating and cooling as well as painting, and carpentry work as needed.

Equipment Maintenance

The Equipment Maintenance division employs 13 individuals. This division is responsible for the maintenance of the City's entire fleet, consisting of over 600 pieces of large equipments. The City has many specialized types of equipment including; dump trucks, street sweepers, Police and Fire equipment, as well as all the turf equipment used on the City's three golf courses. The Equipment maintenance division also maintains the fuel inventory for the City's 14 fuel tanks, fuel delivery truck and all fuel card lock purchases.


The City of Idaho Falls has a central purchasing system that is staffed by a Purchasing Agent and a Purchasing Clerk. All purchases over $500 for equipment, goods, and services, are processed through the Purchasing division. Purchasing is also responsible for writing, preparing, issuing and overseeing quotes and bids, with the exception of most construction projects. The Purchasing division is located in City Hall at 308 Constitution Way.
