Swimmers will be disqualified for stroke infractions beginning on the first meet of the season. See below for a full list of disqualifications.
General Disqualifications
- False Start
- Did not finish
- Entered water without permission
- Interfered with another swimmer
- Walking on or springing from the bottom
- Standing on the bottom
- Pulling on the lane line
- Finished in wrong lane
- Unsportsmanlike conduct
- Wrong stroke
- Swam more than three individual events
- Swam more than three relay events
- Swam more than four total events
Freestyle Disqualifications
- No touch on turn
- Head did not break the surface of the water by 15 meters
Backstroke Disqualifications
- Toes curled over gutter after the start
- Head did not break the surface by 15 meters
- Not on back off wall
- No touch at turn
- Non-continuous turning action
- Shoulders past vertical towards the breast (except at the turn)
- Did not finish on back
- Delay initiating arm pull at turn
- Delay initiating turn after passing vertical
- Multiple strokes past vertical at the turn (Jr. High swimmers are allowed two strokes)
Butterfly Disqualifications
- Kick not at least 50% dolphin kick
- Non-simultaneous arms
- Arms recover underwater
- One-hand touch
- No touch at wall
- Touch non-simultaneous
- Shoulders not at or past vertical towards the breast off the wall
- Head did not break the surface by 15 meters
Breaststroke Disqualifications
- Kick not at least 50% breaststroke kick
- Two arm strokes underwater
- Hands beyond the hipline during stroke
- Recovered elbows over water
- One hand touch
- No touch
- Non-simultaneous touch
- Shoulders not at or past vertical towards breast off the wall
- Head under for two or more strokes
- Incomplete stroke cycle other than one pull followed by one kick
Individual Medley Disqualifications
- Strokes out of sequence
- Freestyle leg is not front crawl
- All other DQs as pertaining to their specific stroke
Relay Disqualifications
- Order of swimmers changed
- Not enough swimmers
- Early take-off
- All other DQs as pertaining to their specific stroke
