The Idaho Falls Police Department recognizes the right of the community and the news media to be informed of the activities of the Department and incidents in the community, which affect or are of general interest to the public. An open relationship with the public and the representatives of the news media ensures a high level of trust and confidence on the part of the community.

The Idaho Falls Police Department engages in proactive efforts to foster positive relations with the media, which includes cooperation with media efforts to the greatest extent possible through the provision of factual information. The Police Department has a responsibility to inform the public and the news media of the activities and operations of the Department while at the same time honoring its duty to preserve the privacy of individuals to the degree authorized by law as well as the rights of the accused.
